Family of Nichole Walters thanks community for support

MATTYDALE (WSYR-TV) - The family of a murdered Jefferson County mother is thanking the community for its support.

Nichole Walters was shot and allegedly killed by her husband, Fort Drum soldier Justin Walters, on Sunday night.

Her family tells NewsChannel 9:

"The family of Nichole V Walters-Lum would like to say thank you to all who have contacted them at this time. Nichole was a loving mother to her son, a supportive daughter to her parents, Kristin and Robert, and a loving sibling to her brother Robbie and sister Brittany. They are heartbroken at the news of her death and have many questions that need to be answered in time by the police. They are still in shock at this news and request some understanding at this time, as their primary concern is the safety and well-being of her son.

Nichole was residing in Mattydale until her marriage to her husband. Her son was her world and her reason to live life to the fullest. She had a large heart, often helping friends in need-- opening her door to help if they needed a place to stay. We have no further info at this time as to why this all happened and would like to send our prayers to the family of the trooper who lost his life.

We ask that friends please say prayers for those involved and to allow Nichole’s family some privacy to grieve and make arrangements at this time."
