SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - A family of nine is getting help from the Red Cross after a fire on Midland Avenue between West Kennedy Street and Kirk Avenue forced them out of their home.
Crews found heavy flames on the second floor, too intense to get inside the home when they arrived around 6:02 p.m. Saturday.
Everyone living in the home was able to escape, including two adults and seven children.
"Once we hit it from the outside, like I said we pulled them out went to an outside operation, knocked the bulk of the fire down. After we let it sit for a little while we got companies back inside to put out hot spots, open up and make sure the fire was extinguished, said Deputy Chief Bob Cussen.
A woman and a boy were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Investigators are still looking for a cause
