Firefighters battle house fire in Schroeppel

Town of Schroeppel (WSYR-TV) - A family's home was destroyed after crews spent nearly six hours battling a fire in the Town of Schroeppel.

That fire along the 500 block of Biddlecum Road broke out around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.   Flames were already coming through the roof when firefighters arrived and after just a few minutes, the roof started to sag.

Two adults and two children were all able to escape; a son waking up and warning his family to get out.

Pennellville Assistant Fire Chief Ed Weldin says there are no hydrants in the area, so water had to be brough in on tankers.

Several fire departments from Oswego and Onondaga Counties were called in to fight the fire.

New York State Police are investigating the cause of the fire, but Weldin thinks an electrical problem in the garage started the fire.
