Firefighters looking for cause of fire in Syracuse apartment

Everyone escaped the building on Park Street Saturday night

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse firefighters rushed to the 500-block of Park Street near Hier Avenue just after 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The first floor, where they believe the fire started was vacant and the windows were boarded up, according to a deputy fire chief.

Everyone living on the second floor was able to get out safely. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes.

"We unboarded the windows, we opened it up pretty quickly. The companies made an aggressive attack on the fire. We handled it pretty well," said Syracuse Deputy Fire Chief Paul Cousins.

With all the fire, smoke and water damage inside, the family upstairs was not be able to return home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
