LANSING, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Firefighters rescued a man and his dog from the Salmon Creek in Ludlowville area of Lansing on Friday night.
The call came in around 6 p.m. when reports say a man was walking his dog near Salmon Creek when the dog jumped in and was swept downstream.
The man jumped in, but was also swept away by the water.
The Lansing Fire Department arrived to the scene within minutes and called the Ithaca Fire Department’s water rescue team to assist.
Ithaca firefighters deployed an inflatable rescue boat attached to a rope system, with one rescuer, to cross the rapid water and retrieve the man and his dog.
A separate rescue swimmer stood by downstream in case someone fell out.
The man was placed in a life jacket and he was hauled back with his dog across the creek to safety. The man and dog were shaken, but uninjured, according to the Ithaca Fire Department.
