Governor Cuomo says search still underway for new State Fair Director

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - NewsChannel 9 has learned that the New York State is planning to name a new State Fair Director.

A source says Dan Queri, a Central New York developer, will be offered the job.

According to Queri's LinkedIn profile, he owns Daniel Queri Consulting Service, had a role in the early stages of Destiny USA and was a project manager for The Walt Disney Company.

But Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the search is still underway.

"I don't believe they've made a decision yet, there's a search committee that's going through the resumes and having interviews we just want the best fair director that we can get. The State Fair is very important to us, we've invested a lot of money in the state fair, we've done renovations," said Cuomo.

The job of State Fair Director has technically been open since the fall of 2013, when Thomas Ryan stepped down after only eight months.

At that time, Assistant Director Troy Waffner was named Acting Director and has held the job since, becoming the face of the New York State Fair, its highly publicized renovations and record-breaking attendance last summer.

NewsChannel 9 has also learned that Waffner will continue to play an important role with the fair, even if Queri takes the top job.

A formal announcement is expected in the next few weeks.

Our requests for comments from Dan Queri and the State Department of Agriculture and Markets have not been returned.
