Flooding hotline established for residents impacted by Lake Ontario high water levels

OSWEGO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Lake Ontario flood assistance hotline has been launched for residents affected by the area flooding.

People who are affected by the high water levels of Lake Ontario may call 1-866-244-3839 for the latest flooding forecast, help with flood mitigation measures such as sandbags, and for technical assistance regarding on-site repairs to their property.

The Oswego County Emergency Management Office is working closely with the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, and our local municipalities, to monitor the impact of the rising water level.

Oswego County has received 30,000 sandbags from New York State. The sandbags are being distributed to highway superintendents in shoreline towns affected by the high water levels.

As a result of the flooding, Governor Cuomo declared a state of emergency in Oswego, Cayuga, Jefferson, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, St. Lawrence and Wayne counties.

The designation allows local officials to expedite repairs to impacted structures and implement shoreline stabilization projects.

Oswego County residents may request sandbags by contacting their local highway superintendent. A list of highways superintendents can be found here.

If you need assistance, dial 1-866-244-3839.
