Former Rockefeller Methodist Church gets new life

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - Two years after the Rockefeller Methodist Church on Nottingham Rd. in Syracuse closed, a new group has moved in.

Syracuse's Chinese Community Center held its grand opening at the space on Saturday. They've been renovating and holding events in the space since last year.

The center hopes to carry the same mission of inclusivity as their predecessor.

"We want to honor the spirit of those who came before us," said Dan Feng, whose family runs the CCC. "With all the time and money they put into the building, we want to make sure it's available to the community."

The center just started their own church services along with a summer camp, in addition to other classes and community events.

"One of our main goals here is not just to build a program that's for those who are Chinese," Feng said. "But to also create an opportunity for young people who don't come from a Chinese background to learn about the culture as well."
