Fowler High School's last graduating class crosses the stage

Generations of students were in the crowd to witness the final graduation

Syracuse, NY (WSYR-TV) - A memorable night for Fowler High School's class of 2017, the last class before the building transitions to the Public Service Leadership Academy at Fowler. Graduates young and old came out for the end of an era on the Southside.

"It might be the last time, but the legacy will still be in us," said Dah Ler, class of 2015.

"Somebody asks me 'where you graduate?' [I say] 'Fowler,' they say 'oh I'm sorry.' I'm not. I'm not. I'm proud," said Rebecca Hilifigure, class of 1997.

High school sweethearts Jennifer and Hector Cruz's story with the high school is ending today as they watch their son Joshua cross the stage. He'll be starting at OCC in the fall and as he and the other graduates move on to a new adventure, so does the school.

"It'll always be Fowler, PSLA at Fowler is a very good school, but to me, it'll always be Fowler," said Joshua Cruz.

But they're all united by one degree, whether it's from 1990 or 2017.

"It's a family...outside of school, my personal family went to Fowler...it seems like a family," said Joshua Cruz.

After pressure from the state, the school will now be offering nontraditional classes, training graduates in specific career paths.
