The Syracuse ‘Salt Potatoes' make their debut on Saturday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Syracuse Chiefs are returning home this weekend for a three-day series against the Rochester Red Wings, and on Saturday, fans will see the debut of the Syracuse Salt Potatoes.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, The Syracuse Salt Potatoes take the field for the “What If Night” promotion.

The entire night is expected to be salt potato-themed. 

The first 1,000 fans 13 and older and Super Pack holders will receive a replica Syracuse Salt Potatoes jersey which the team will wear that night.

NBT Bank Stadium will be transformed from Chiefsville to Tater Town, featuring Salt Potato food options.

The famed Syracuse delicacy along with garlic parmesan salt potatoes will be available at Hot Dog Nation.

In addition, loaded salt potatoes will be available at Chicken Fry Fry, and salt potato pizza can be found at Vinne's Pizza.

Yes, there will even be potato-related entertainment.

Gates will open early at 5:30 p.m. and the band Tots and Home Fries will play on the concourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Tots is the alter-ego of Michael John Haggarty, and he and his band the Home Fries have been singing about potatoes for years. They will debut their special song, written just for Salt Potatoes Night.

"The Syracuse Salt Potatoes is just plain fun and silly and our community loves it. It is going to be a big night here in Tater Town as the Salt Potatoes take the field for the first time," said Chiefs General Manager Jason Smorol. "It's going to be an event and people want to say they were here when it happened. We are adding a great promotional giveaway, Reggy the Purple Party Dude, live potato based music, a chance to break a world record and a whole lot more." 

Fireworks will follow the game on Saturday.
