WASHINGTON (WSYR-TV) - For the first time in a decade, the Syracuse-area representative is returning to Congress for a second term.
Republican John Katko was sworn in Tuesday by House Speaker Paul Ryan with his family close by.
Katko returns to a very different Washington, with both the House and Senate controlled by Republicans and Donald Trump headed to the White House.
Katko did not endorse Donald Trump, but is planning to work with to get things done for Central New York.
His priorities include creating jobs and rebuilding the economy, combating the heroin epidermic and rebuilding Interstate 81, while vowing to remain an independent voice in Congress.
New York's 24th District includes all of Cayuga, Onondaga, and Wayne counties, and the western part of Oswego County.
Katko easily beat Democratic challenger Colleen Deacon in November.
