Meet some of the passengers on Syracuse's final flight to Florida before Hurricane Irma

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - Only around two dozen people boarded the final scheduled flight from Syracuse to Florida until Hurricane Irma passes Florida.

The flight to Orlando, which is typically near capacity when it leaves at 7:47 a.m. on Saturday mornings, left Hancock International Airport on time.

Most of the passengers told NewsChannel 9 they were headed back home to Florida after visiting friends or family in Central New York.

Others were going down to support loved ones in the storm's path.

"Florida's the last place I want to be heading to right now," Scott Galster, who boarded the flight to be with his parents as the brace Irma in Ft. Myers said. "I would love it if they would evacuate, but since they don't seem to want to, I would like to be there to help them through."

Several groups were also heading to planned Disney World vacations, despite the theme park being closed for several days due to the storm.
