Meet the author: 'The Misfit Miracle Girl: Candid Reflections"

Kate D. Mahoney shares her journey of transformation

CLAY (WSYR-TV) - Kate D. Mahoney’s story started with a miracle, but along the way she found there was more to it.

Mahoney’s memoir, "The Misfit Miracle Girl: Candid Reflections," gives readers a chance to see her journey of devotion and doubt.

At age 14, Mahoney was diagnosed with stage four germ cell ovarian cancer. Her health continued to decline and she suffered multi-organ failure.

When she woke up from a coma, she was declared a “miracle,” as her hospital discharge papers state her recovery from organ failure could not be explained medically.

It was worldwide prayer requests directed to deceased nun Mother Marianne Cope that became the source of her recovery.

Mahoney’s case led to the canonization of Mother Cope.

Mahoney will hold a book signing beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, at the Barnes & Noble located off Route 31 in the town of Clay.
