Mike Hopkins named Pac-12 Coach of the Year

SEATTLE, Wa (WSYR-TV) - Former Syracuse University basketball assistant coach Mike Hopkins was named Coach of the Year in the Pacific-12 Conference.

Hopkins has been with the University of Washington Huskies for just a year after spending 22 years with the Orange.

Coach Hopkins has the most wins for a first-year coach at UW since Marv Harshman finished 20-6 in the 1971-72 season.

Hop has transformed a team that went 9-22 last season to a sixth place finish in the Pac-12.

UW basketball is now 19-10 overall.

The Huskies' NCAA hopes hang on securing at least one win in the Pac-12 tournament.

UW takes on Oregon State Wednesday in their first matchup in the Pac-12 Tourney.
