New changes rolling out at the DeWitt Wegmans

DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Wegmans in DeWitt is rolling out a series of changes including an addition that will be the first of its kind in the Syracuse area.

The prepared foods department is the corner stone of Wegmans stores everywhere. In DeWitt, that corner stone is undergoing a major expansion.

“It really comes from overall studying the business and the Wegmans family is always dedicated to reinvesting in the company and continuing to grow based on customer feedback, customer buying trends,” says Store Manager Mike Pysack. “Our store really just did need something like this because as we continue to grow and want to offer more to our customers, you need the right ability and the right equipment.”

Some of that equipment was already on hand, but 12,000 square feet of it had to be added.

A renovation like that is bound to create obstacles for shoppers, but they’re taking it all in stride. Pysack adds, “our customers are really embracing this change, and are positive about it, and they’re very excited about the change coming forward. If we can do this with minimal interruption obviously that’s to their benefit as well as ours.”

The changes include a Taste of Mexico meal option, gourmet sandwiches, made to order pizza and much more.

“Probably the Burger Bar is the most exciting thing because it’s the biggest change for us,” says Pysack.

People are also wondering if the store got their liquor license.

Pysack says they have applied for the license but have not heard back from the state yet. If they do get it, you will be able to enjoy a glass of wine or beer with your meal.

The new seating areas could be open to shoppers by Friday. The burger bar is expected to be done by August with the entire project being completed by November.
