New York State Fair breaks all time attendance and daily records

1.16 million people attended the fair in 2017

GEDDES (WSYR-TV) - The New York State Fair has officially broken its all time attendance record attracting 1,161,912 fairgoers this year.

On top of that, they also broke the all time daily record, with 124,819 showing up on Labor Day.

The fair season was one day longer this year, starting on Wednesday instead of Thursday.

Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner also telling NewsChannel 9 that he thinks that 13th day will be returning next year.

The fair only needed 80,537 after Sunday night's crowds brought the tally for the season to 1,037,093.

Fair officials say 121,203 people attended the fair on Saturday. That alone is a record for the second Saturday of the fair....squeaking past the old record by 39 people!

For those keeping score, it was the fourth time the fair announced a daily record this year. 

On the first Sunday of the event this year, a spokesman reported that 123,206 people visited the fair. That was the most visitors ever recorded on a single day before Labor Day's  record.

Two food related records were broken this year, including the number of baked potatoes sold, which was 59,946 as of Sunday. A record 420,000 cups of white and chocolate milk were also sold as of noon Labor Day.
