NYSEG continues power restoration efforts after Friday's storms

WSYR-TV - As of midday Saturday, nearly 5,000 NYSEG customers remain without power after Friday’s severe thunderstorms rolled through Upstate New York.

At the height of the storm more than 40,000 utility customers were without power.  Late Saturday morning NYSEG released the following statement on power restoration efforts:

NYSEG is currently responding to widespread outages following a series of severe thunderstorms. The company quickly mobilized local crews and additional resources from neighboring utilities in New York and Pennsylvania to the affected areas to respond to the extensive damage. Since the start of this thunderstorm event on Friday afternoon, nearly 42,000 customers lost power. As of 11 am, there are less than 5,000 customers who remain without power. NYSEG expects to have power restored to customers affected by the severe storms by tonight.  The company continues to shift resources to the affected areas and will do so until power is restored to every customer. NYSEG’s top priorities are restoring power as quickly as possible and the safety of customers, employees and contractors.
