Olympic gymnast, ovarian cancer survivor Shannon Miller to speak in CNY

Miller slated as keynote speaker for Hope for Heather's March 26 fashion show

LIVERPOOL (WSYR-TV) - Hope for Heather Ovarian Cancer Awareness has announced that Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller will be the keynote speaker at the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Fashion Show and Brunch on March 26.

Miller is best known for her impressive gymnastics performances at the ’92 Barcelona and ’96 Atlanta Olympic Games.

The gymnastics icon was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer in January of 2011.

Since leaving the competitive world of gymnastics, Miller says battling ovarian cancer has been her greatest challenge and motivation.

Now, past her own battle, Miller wants women to know the signs and symptoms of the disease because there is no test for ovarian cancer. Some of the symptoms are abdominal bloating, pressure in the pelvis, frequent urination and loss of appetite.

She now committed to being a health advocate for others through her speaking engagements, blogging, YouTube videos and her book, "It’s Not About Perfect: Competing For My Country and Fighting For My Life, A Memoir."

Hope for Heather Executive Director Frieda Weeks tells NewChannel 9 the annual fashion show has grown each year and that Miller’s strong presence at the 2017 event is something no one will want to miss.

The Breakfast at Tiffany’s Fashion Show and Brunch will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool.

Miller will deliver the keynote speech and also meet with cancer survivors attending the event.

There will be a fashion show, brunch, raffles and silent auction items for bid to benefit Hope for Heather ovarian Cancer Awareness.

Tickets are still available for the event. You can purchase them at hopeforheather.org.
