One Weedsport restaurant partially underwater as flooding makes its way through Central New York

Could put the restaurant back weeks

Weedsport, NY (WSYR-TV) - Major flooding has caused quite the headache for homeowners and a nightmare for one local restaurant.

Behind Devaney's Riverside Grill, the entire yard is flooded, including the patio, the outdoor seating area, and the grill.

The restaurant usually kicks off summer in May with events that could have as many as 700 people crowded in the yard.

"We'd have anywhere from four to five people here throughout the day, every day of the week getting everything cleaned up and ready," said Zach Walton, manager, "We usually like to start around the first week of April, but it doesn't look like that's possible right now."

But they say flooding of more than three feet is quite the setback.

"Early in the week, this past week, we noticed it was getting high, I didn't think it was going to cross the wall, but I also didn't think we were going to get as much rain as we did," said Walton.

But they say they'll find a way.

"Going from winter to spring in such a short time is always hard so anytime we lose weeks it makes it more difficult than it already is, we'll pull it off; we always seem to, but getting there is going to be a little more challenging," said Walton.

With more spring-like temperatures in the forecast next week, they're hoping some of this flooding will go away, at least in time for May.
