SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - The deadline to submit your 2016 tax return is just one week away and according to the IRS, one in seven Americans wait until the last minute.
Consumer Reports recommends filing even if you can’t pay what you owe because penalties for not filing a return are 10-times greater if you're late.
A five percent penalty will be tacked on per month for late payments.
If you need extra time you can apply for a six month extension on the IRS website.
The deadline is April 18.
