Oneida County native becomes Detroit Lions' new head coach

DETROIT, MI (WSYR-TV) - An Oneida County native has been named as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, according to the NFL

43-year-old Sherrill native Matt Patricia will be tasked with turning around a team that hasn't won a playoff game since the 1991 season.

Patricia was formerly the defensive coordinator with the New England Patriots.

His appointment with the Lions comes just a day after the Pats fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII.

Patricia spent the last 14 years with the Patriots.

"This position comes with great responsibility, and I will commit every ounce of my energy to this football team, starting today," Patricia said in a statement. "My family is excited to become part of this wonderful city that displays so much passion for their teams."
