Onondaga Co. Legislature votes to sell OnCenter parking lot

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - If you're a regular at the OnCenter, a parking lot you may use all the time will be going away.

The Onondaga County Legislature voted today to sell the surface lot directly across from the Convention Center to Pemco, a company that plans to develop the space into high-rise apartments, offices and restaurants.

“This project will bring thousands of people downtown and importantly to this side of downtown. Armory Square has seen a lot of success with the Hotel Syracuse now with this project and others. We think the Warren Street side of downtown will see success. You’ll have bodies, you'll have development. You’re talking about one of the largest developments we've seen in our community,” said Ryan McMahon, county legislature chair.

The vote was 16-1 in favor of the sale.

When we asked about past failed projects in the same space, Chairman McMahon thinks this attempt will be a success.
