Onondaga Nation holds special graduation ceremony

LAFAYETTE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Thursday was a special night for students from the Onondaga Nation as they held their graduation ceremony.

It comes a little more than a week after the Nation pulled their students from LaFayette schools over its decision not to hire an Onondaga Nation native as the principal of Onondaga Nation School.

Thursday’s ceremony though was about recognizing the kids' hard work.

“The community came together to put this together for the graduates to make sure they had their special day so the last two weeks have been a little hectic in the community but we made it work and our hard work showed off, it paid off tonight,” said Sue Parsons, program coordinator.

As part of tonight's graduation the class of 2017 also received scrolls of appreciation for their work over this school year.
