Police: Man arrested in Binghamton hit-and-run, victim in critical condition

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A man has been arrested for leaving the scene of a hit-and-run, which left the pedestrian he allegedly struck in critical condition.

On Friday, July 21, Binghamton Police responded to a call regarding a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

Police say 37-year-old Amie Lewis was crossing at Main and Murray Streets when she was hit by a car, shortly before 10 p.m.

Lewis suffered severe head and internal injuries and is currently in the hospital, listed in critical condition.

With assistance from the public, Binghamton Police Detectives recovered a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

45-year-old Matthew Wood was arrested on Monday morning in connection with the incident.

Wood, of Greene, N.Y., was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with serious physical injury, a felony.

He is currently being held at the Binghamton Police Department awaiting arraignment in Binghamton City Court.
