Identity released of police officer hit by car and killed while helping injured deer

Accident happened west of Saratoga Springs

ALBANY (WTEN-TV) - A Fulton County police officer died after he was struck by a car Monday night along Route 30 in the Hamlet of Northhampton, about 40 miles west of Saratoga Springs.

Law enforcement sources tell WTEN-TV, Albany that 60-year-old Robert Johnson stopped around 10:05 p.m. Monday to help an injured deer lying in the middle of the road on Route 30, about half a mile south of the Northville Bridge.

A driver headed Northbound struck Johnson, killing him.

Police do say Johnson was a retired Gloversville police officer, currently working part-time for the Village of Northville Police Department.
