Powerlines down, fallen trees on homes, just part of what Tully neighbors are dealing with

Neighbors work together to pick up storm damage

Tully, NY (WSYR-TV) - A fast moving storm delivered a powerful punch to southern Onondaga County, prompting the sheriff tonight to issue a travel advisory.

Tully Lake View Lane is normally a beautiful neighborhood, situated right on the water. But after Thursday night's storm, it was transformed. Chuck Gates' parents live at the head of the road.

"It's kind of tough to believe, you know, you grew up there. I spent pretty much my whole life here," said Gates.

Right across the water, another home is impaled by a tree.

"Actually we weren't home at the time and some of the neighbors called and said there's a tree on top of your house," said Peter Mapstone.

But it isn't just their homes impacted, large trees sit right in the street, forcing neighbors to work together.

"We're just trying to get some of the trees cut up before they actually fall further. A few trees are falling all over the place or broken up or they've just come down a lot of them are just hanging on wires," said Mapstone.

So their normally beautiful street may look a mess, but the bond of these neighbors is as strong as ever.

The Red Cross was helping out homeowners Thursday night. One homeowner tells me their insurance company will be here tomorrow to assess the damage.
