Projection: Lake Ontario water levels to drop 3 inches by July

Lake levels to remain at historic highs

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - The Army Corps of Engineers issued a report Friday projecting that the Lake Ontario water levels will drop by 3 inches between now and July 2nd.

In spite of that drop, water levels will remain at historic high levels into early July.

The lake reached a record high of 248.95 feet on May 26th.  As of June 2nd it was down to 248.90 feet.

The average lake level for June is 246.23 feet, more than two feet below the current level.

The report also stated that the lake level could still rise before dropping the 3 inches.

High water levels have been responsible for lakeshore flooding and erosion for the last two months.
