Record adoptions as Helping Hounds rescues Alabama pups

Dogs were at risk of being euthanized

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - Dozens of Central New Yorkers hoping to add a member to the family stopped by Helping Hounds Saturday...adopting a record 36 pups in one day.

It was their first chance to meet a new group of about 50 dogs, delivered all the way from Alabama where they were at risk of being euthanized.

The group's mission is to take dogs from overcrowded shelters and bring them to rescue centers where there are openings, like Helping Hounds.

"It certainly is not a silver bullet, it's certainly not bringing an end to all the problems. But, it is an added component that probably couldn't have been done 20 or 30 years ago," says Helping Hounds Executive Director Kathy Gilmour.
