ROME (WSYR-TV) - Rome police are asking witnesses to help them find the suspect in a homicide investigation, involving the death of a 25-year-old man early this morning.
A report of gunfire prompted 911 dispatchers to send officers to the 400-block of Woodrow Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Thomas E. Shepherd Jr., was found on the ground with injuries that investigators believe were caused by a gun.
No one else was hurt. Police believe the possible shooter had already left the scene.
Shepherd was taken to the hospital, but police say he was pronounced dead "a short time later".
After collecting evidence and interviews at the scene, police say they have identified a suspect, 35-year-old Robert W. Coffin.
Detectives are asking anyone who may know where Coffin is tonight - to call 911.
Other information about the investigation can be shared with Rome Police Detective Jeff Lanigan at 315-339-7719.
