Rome police use DNA to track suspect from attempted robbery in January

ROME (WSYR-TV) - Rome Police detectives say they used DNA from clothing to find the man accused of knocking down a 79-year old woman as he tried to grab her purse, back in January.

19-year-old Curtis Thompson is charged with attempted robbery and assault.

The victim told police she was walking to her car at the Black River Shopping Center when a man ran up behind her.

She held onto her purse as she fell to the ground and the man ran away without getting any of her property.

It took more than eight months, but police caught up with Curtis Thompson this weekend.

They say the victim has recovered from several injuries.
