Seneca County town court clerk accused of stealing $167K

VARICK, N.Y. (WROC-TV) - A town clerk in Seneca County has been arrested for allegedly stealing nearly $167,000.

State Police say 44-year-old Julie Dougherty, of Varick, stole $166,999 from Varick Town Court during a seven-year period while she was employed as the town court clerk.

Dougherty was charged with second-degree grand larceny, a felony.

The arrest is the result of a six-month joint investigation by State Police, the Seneca County District Attorney Office, and the Unified Court System’s Internal Audit Services Unit.

State Police say the investigation is continuing.
