Severe T-storm Watch in effect for most of CNY

Watch in effect until 11 pm tonight

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 11 pm tonight for parts of central New York.


Scattered storms are currently forming over western New York and will move through central New York between 4-7 pm this evening. These storms have the greatest chance of becoming severe.


It will quiet down after 6 or 7 pm but another round of showers and storms are possible close to midnight tonight.


According to the National Weather Service, a Severe Thunderstorm is defined as having winds of 58 mph or higher and/or having hail 1 inch in diameter or larger.


A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is issued when sever e thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. It does not mean that they will occur, it only means they are possible.
