Shamrock Run starts with a blast of snow on Tipperary Hill

The Syracuse tradition is one of several events leading up to St. Patrick's Day

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - A blast of snow greeted runners on Tipperary Hill Saturday morning in Syracuse.

The Shamrock Run is one of many events leading up to the city's elaborate annual St. Patrick's Parade.

The four-mile course is full of challenging hills.

Some runners embraced the flakes... remembering the blistery conditions they've faced before.

"Last year was bitter cold temperatures," said Laurel Leone. "For me, that's just hard to get your muscles moving quick enough when it's that cold. So, I actually prefer today."

Leone finished the four-mile race in 24 minutes...first place for the women. Sam Morse crossed the finish line in 20 minutes.
