SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound after accidentally discharging his personal gun inside the Onondaga County Justice Center.
Officials say just before 10:30 Monday evening Deputy Justin Brannock, 28, accidentally shot himself inside the employee locker room located in an unsecured portion of the Justice Center.
They say Deputy Brannock, who suffered a non-life threatening injury, was un-holstering his firearm when the gun discharged.
He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and was expected to be released a short time later.
No other injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation.
Deputy Brannock has been a member of the Custody Department for nearly five years and is currently assigned to the Booking Section.
