Solvay School District reconfiguration plan approved

GEDDES (WSYR-TV) - The Solvay Union Free School District Board of Education has approved the district's proposed reconfiguration plan.

Fourth grade will move to the Solvay Elementary School and the Pre-K program will move to the district office wing of Solvay Middle School.

The move will happen in the fall.

"The reconfiguration is the result of many hours of extensive research and discussion," Superintendent Lawrence Wright said in a statement earlier this year. "Historically, fourth-graders have been known to have difficulty transitioning into a middle school environment... In moving the fourth grade to the true elementary setting, we would be better positioned to support social, emotional and instructional needs for these students."

More information on the specific updates to be made to accommodate this change may be found on the Solvay district website.
