State Sen. John DeFrancisco considering run for governor

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - State Senator John DeFrancisco is considering a run for governor, the Republican confirms to NewsChannel 9.

DeFrancisco says he's "seriously considering a bid for governor, as long as the party is united."

The 13-term state senator is spending time touring the state, explaining his position on what direction the state should take and gauging what support he has.

"Right now, we're in a situation where the state of New York has turned the corner and I don't think it's a good one," he says, citing the state's declining population, what he considers high taxes and too much regulation.

He criticizes the governor's constant spending of money, what he says seems like a new headline everyday, as infrastructure crumbles from Syracuse to New York City.

Senator DeFrancisco says he's "not obsessing" over running himself, but wants to make sure Republicans have a strong candidate.

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has been approached about running for governor, and hasn't ruled it out, according to The Daily News.
