Sunny weather greets sold-out competition at Ed French Open

BALDWINSVILLE (WSYR-TV) - Saturday was beautiful for fishermen at the Ed French Open, but challenging for competitors.

The sunny and warm weather left anglers with more empty lines than they'd like.

Each team was looking for carp along the Seneca River.

It's an endurance event so at least one member of each team had to remain on the banks at all times, 72 hours in total.

While the carp were coming in slowly, they still enjoyed the sun.

"Last October was the rainiest October on record, so they were miserable," said competitor Ginny Russell. "I know when they booked this one they said, 'at least it's not going to be a monsoon.'"

It's the first year the open has sold out, with 33 teams competing for the grand prize in each section, that's $3,300.
