Suspect arrested in Ithaca assault, police believe it was racially motivated

ITHACA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A 19-year-old has been arrested for his alleged involvement in an assault involving Cornell students. 

According to police, a fight broke out in front of a home in the 300 block of Eddy Street in the Collegetown section of the city on Sept. 15.

John Greenwood, of Ithaca, was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. 

Racial slurs were yelled during the fight and “several” people involved were Cornell students. 

It was unclear whether the victim or the suspects were Cornell students. 

No one was seriously hurt.

Police are still investigating.
