SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The steady rise for Bankers Healthcare Group in Syracuse is about to really take off.
The Franklin Square company just hired 80 people and has several more openings to fill immediately with tremendous growth planned the next couple years.
BHG is the leading provider of financial solutions for healthcare professionals providing working capital, student loan refinancing, patient financing solutions, and both business and personal credit cards to licensed healthcare professionals throughout the US.
Chairman and CEO Al Crawford says it is a far cry from where they were when the company started.
"2001 I was out in a small house on the East side of town, pretty much by myself with an executive assistant, my two partners Bobby and Eric Castro were in a similar location in Fort Lauderdale Florida." Crawford tells NewsChannel 9.
By 2005 the company landed in inc. magazine as the 5th fastest growing privately owned company in the US.
2006, however, turned out to be the worst in the company's nearly two decades long history.
He says, "We went into all facets of lending in 2006 and we ran back to the medical sector where we have, I would say, probably as much expertise as anybody."
They not only recovered they've been thriving and growing the Syracuse office to about 160 people today.
Public Relations Manager Danielle Gerhart says, "We know how busy healthcare professionals are and they don't have time to get away from their patients or their practices so we try to make it seamless for them."
Crawford says there's still plenty of room for growth which is why he plans to add another 200 employees to the Syracuse office in the next couple years.
Besides growing the business another mission of BHG is giving back to the community which they have done in a number of ways including in the Syracuse City School District and with the Food Bank of Central New York.
"We're doing well, the people that work here are doing well we should definitely be sharing that with the community that we all live in." Crawford says.
Overall Bankers Healthcare is approaching 400 employees between its Syracuse, New York City and Davie, Florida office.
