Syracuse Police: Deadly Shonnard Street shooting an accident

A teen has been charged in connection with the incident

Syracuse Police have arrested a teen in connection with a deadly Shonnard Street shooting-- a shooting which police are calling an accident.

Police were called to the 400 block of Shonnard Street on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

18-year-old Niko Santana was rushed to Upstate Hospital in a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. 

He later died from his injuries.

A 17-year-old was arrested on Feb. 9 in connection with the incident.

After conducting several interviews and reviewing evidence from the scene, police determined the deadly shooting was not intentional. 

The teen, however, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
