Taxi companies gear up for New Year's Eve

Some drivers five times as much business during the holiday

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - For Blue Star Taxi, all 18 of its cabs will be working New Year's Eve round the clock.

"It's mandatory that everybody show up to work tonight and make sure they give 100 percent," said Sonny Singh, owner.

On a typical weekend night, the company will answer about one hundred calls, on New Year's Eve, they'll see anywhere between four and five hundred.

"It's gonna be non stop. It's gonna be non stop from like 9 to 4, 5, 6 o'clock in the morning and not just for us, but for every cab company in the city of Syracuse," said Singh.

So that means if you try to call in, it might take awhile.

"A lot of people wait until the last minute to call the taxi, we are going to be thirty to forty five minutes, maybe an hour behind schedule tonight," said Singh.

No matter how long the wait, Singh hopes people won't get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol.

"Drinking and driving is tempting. You know, you have your keys in your pocket, car sitting right in front of you...why should I wait for a ride? Why should I pay for a ride? It's not just about paying or waiting for a ride, you know, you just need to be patient to be safe out there, for yourself and for the others driving or walking or doing anything to celebrate the new year just like you," said Singh.

As everyone wants to make it to 2017 happy, healthy and safe.
