Team of the Week: Liverpool Warriors baseball champions

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The journey to a championship is never easy— for the Liverpool Warriors, their drive to first section title in six years began as members of the Seneca River North Little League program.

“Driving by on Wetzel Road and seeing these varsity guys practice when we were young, it was like ‘wow, we are going to play for them someday.’ Now we are here winning a sectional championship and we are doing it.  We always looked up to that, like it was winning the World Series as little kids. It is just a crazy feeling to be doing it now and proceeding onto states,” said senior pitcher Jeff Destefano.

This year’s Warriors team bec

ame the 9th in school history to win a Section title.  With one more win Liverpool, would advance to their first state Final Four since 1992.

“All of us believing in each other is kind of what I think is really special about this team. I think just keep working hard, focusing on the task and hopefully we will get the job done,” said senior shortstop Jake Evans.

In 12 of the 20 wins this season, Liverpool has limited their opponent to two runs or less.

“It’s that commitment.  It is that togetherness. It’s the family.  It’s I got your back. All those things play into it. They were doing it because they wanted to do it. It is something they set their mind too,” head coach Fred Terzini said.
