The Hearth residents bake pies for hurricane relief

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - More Central New York help is heading South for hurricane relief. This time, though, it's in the form of a treat that you can get your hands on.

Jean Falk and her neighbors at The Hearth at Greenpoint in Liverpool don't get the chance to bake their delicious specialties much anymore.

"I miss this whole thing. Especially this season with the apples," Jean said.

But on Wednesday, they were back to peeling apples and mixing up the brown sugar and cinnamon pie topping for 250 delicious apple pies.

Doing it all with a focus like they never left the kitchen, because they know it's for people in Houston and Florida who may no longer have a kitchen to cook in.

"It's nice to know it's a worthy cause. The proceeds from the sale will go to the victims. I don't know anyone in the flood area but I'm sure there's plenty of people these will help," said resident of the Hearth on James, Laura Curran.

When the talented baking experts at The Hearth finished making the filling of the pies, those pies went to the kitchen to be baked.

Starting Thursday morning at 8:30, you can buy one of them for $10.

All of the proceeds from the pie sales go to the Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma relief efforts.

You can purchase a pie at The Hearth on James, The Hearth at Greenpoint, and Keepsake Village at Greenpoint between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 and Friday, Sept. 15.
