Uber, Lyft or taxis: Which is fastest? Which is cheapest?

NewsChannel 9 put them to the test

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Plenty of cars made their way to the Lake Amphitheater Friday for the Third Eye Blind concert, many choosing to use ride-sharing services. But are they faster than a taxi?

NewsChannel 9 decided to put them to the test. Both ride-sharing services companies estimated a less than ten minute arrival time. We called three taxi companies all taking somewhere between fifteen and twenty minutes.

As for cost, a nine-mile Uber trip from our Bridge Street studio in East Syracuse cost $15.73. The same trip using a Lyft driver cost $15.64, but you have to factor in a few dollars for tip.

Taxis charge $2.80 outright when you get into the car, and then $3.20 per mile. So for our nine-mile trip, it would cost $31.60.

Making ride-sharing services both faster and cheaper.
