Former police chief and shoe store owner team up to grow marijuana

DEWITT (WSYR-TV) - Former Syracuse Police Chief and Syracuse University Basketball Star, Dennis DuVal, has been hired by the owner of J-Michael's Shoes, to form a partnership to grow medical marijuana.

Their company, Terradiol, has been granted a license by the New York State Health Department to open a medical marijuana growing facility in Onondaga County, along with four dispensaries in other counties.

Other companies to get licenses first opened three dispensaries in Onondaga County in 2016.

Terradiol will grow the plants, turn them into different forms of medicine and for the first time in Upstate New York, deliver the product to the patient.

They've chosen the old factory of New Venture Gear as their home.

The company plans to hire about 20 permanent employees and expects possible hundreds of contracting jobs to retrofit the factory into a modern facility.
