SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Upstate Medical University is joining a growing list of companies adding jobs in Downtown Syracuse.
The regions largest employer will move 430 jobs from Widewaters in DeWitt to The Galleries on South Salina Street in Syracuse.
Upstate will move its Information Management Technology in late July and Hospital Finance in October.
Rob Simpson, President, CenterState CEO, tells NewsChannel 9, "Some of the employers frankly are telling us Downtown is where their employees want to be, with new restaurants and new retail, with places to live. It’s become a really compelling values property for people that are trying to retain top talent."
Over the past several weeks companies like Arcadis, Aspen Dental, Terakeet and TCGPlayer will retain or add nearly 2,000 jobs in Downtown Syracuse.
"Syracuse is our brand, Downtown is the face of that brand and the better the city looks the better we're going to be to market our entire region." Simpson says.
While some new construction has happened in the past few years Simpson predicts we’ll see quite a bit more in the next few years Downtown.
