WHITNEY POINT, N.Y. - Just days after the first 'Whitney Point Alligator' was captured, a second has appeared and was subsequently captured on Monday afternoon.
The second alligator was first seen on Sunday, Aug. 6. The DEC was able to catch the second alligator using long-handled nets.
The alligator was about 45 inches long and weighed approximately 15 pounds. It is approximately 2-4 years old.
According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, State Police initially reported the sighting to their office.
In a Facebook post, Whitney Point Mayor Ryan Reynolds says "the saga continues," in reference to the discovery of the second alligator.
It was named "Whitney," and will be put on exhibit at the park after a few days of quarantine.
The second gator will also be sent to the Animal Adventure Park.
