Watchfire to be held for worn American flags

Collections are being held statewide for worn flags

GEDESS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - In an effort to respectfully dispose of American flags, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced a statewide collection.

The collected flags will be disposed of as part of the Memorial Watch-Fire hosted by the Vietnam Veterans of America. 

The fire will be held Sunday, May 28 at the Fairgrounds.

Drop-off locations are available across the state for you to bring your flags. 

They will be properly folded prior to disposal.
In Syracuse, you can bring your flags to the Senator John Hughes State Office Building, on Washington Street until next Thursday.
