Attention Wegmans shoppers: You can get groceries delivered to your door

DEWITT (WSYR-TV) - Attention Wegmans shoppers - you can now get groceries delivered to your door.

The chain has partnered with the app Instacart, to bring home delivery service to Syracuse on August 15.

That includes all eight Onondaga County Wegmans locations - DeWitt, Fairmount, James Street, Taft Road, Cicero, Great Northern, Onondaga and John Glenn.

Finger Lakes stores, Auburn, Ithaca and Geneva, are not yet included in the plans.

The service allows Wegmans customers to complete their grocery shopping online, and have their orders delivered to their doors in as little as an hour.

The service will launch in Buffalo-area stores on August 1, Rochester-area stores on August 8, and Syracuse-area stores on August 15. When the app goes live, customers can visit and enter their zip code to determine if they are within the delivery area.

The first delivery is free. Subsequent deliveries cost $6 on orders of $35 or more, on top of an added price on each item. Wegmans says customers won't know the prices until the app goes live.

An annual subscription is also available. The fee varies by location from $99 to $149.

NewsChannel 9 reached out to Tops and Price Chopper, which both say they are looking into also offering delivery service in the near future.

WalMart chains have a service allowing customers to pre-order groceries and pick them up at a local store.
