West Genesee girls advances to Class AA Final Four

Wildcats hold off Colonie 72-63 in Regional Final

TROY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -  

The last time the West Genesee Wildcats girls basketball team advanced to a NYSPHSAA Final Four, not a single girl on the team was born yet.

Saturday the Wildcats punched their ticket to championship weekend, knocking off Colonie 72-63 in the Regional Final.

Mackenzie Smith poured in a game-high 29 points, helping West Genesee reach the Class AA Final Four for the first time since 1994.

Madison Smith added 15 points, as the Wildcats improved to 20-4.

West Genesee will face Section I Champion Ossining who has won four out of the last five state titles.

The Wildcats and the Pride will square off in the semifinals on March 17 at 9 a.m. at Hudson Valley Community College.
